ROOTS OF UNITY

One World Government

A one-world government—
Highly unlikely,
A tedious tree yet unplanted, untended.
On what soil would such a tree stand,
Struggling to meet the needs of many roots,
Of regions unique, of cultures proud,
Impossible to erase identities deeply tied
To one’s sense of home and belonging.

A one-world government—
Risking a world homogenized,
Cultures flattened, voices silenced,
Universalized by the sway of the powerful.
